Zurich, March 28th 2006In Memory of Prof. Dr. Markus Meier
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
On Sunday, April 17th, 2005, Prof. Dr. Markus Meier, in the prime of his life, died in an accident in the river Töss.
In 1996, after ten years of experience in the mechanical industry, Markus Meier was appointed Professor at the Department of Mechanics and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich. In a very short time he was able to develop an extremely successful curriculum in Product Design. For first year students especially, he was the role model of mechanical engineering. His Center of Product Design contributes on an international level to research in fundamentals and methods of the Product Innovation Process. As shown by multiple industry co-operations, these results meet with considerable response.
Those who met Markus Meier personally know what we have lost. In memory of Markus Meier we have chosen to support the project "Das Wasser und ich" of the Swiss Lifeguard Association SLRG. Through this program, lifeguards will visit pre-schools to educate children about both the fun and dangers of water. The SLRG would like to offer this service free of charge to every pre-school. The development and implementation of this program will depend on outside financial support.
